Jonas Mekas Manifesto

Summer Manifesto, collage of sequences.

Jonas Mekas is a filmaker and writer, and was an important member of the American avant-garde cinema scene. When I made my first short film, the diary films of Mekas, such as Walden (1969), were an inspiration to me, inspiring poetic perceptions of the everyday. This saturday night Mekas shows Summer Manifesto with a form of fragmented sensations of seasonal pleasure. The soundtrack is the bird song.

'It’s October, so the summer is getting out of focus.'
'Ah, the computer age. Why did I decide to go backward to slides. Perhaps, I’m old-fashioned. I will never do that again.'
'I love the hot summer in New York. I love it when everyone leaves the city, and you’re left by yourself.'
